Cheap Property Spain. Is Cheap Property in Spain Fact or Fiction?
12 Apr, 2011 in Cheap Property SpainCheap Property In Spain
These days if you are looking to buy cheap property Spain you do not have to accept second best. The world recession has hit Spain as hard as any other country, in particular the Spanish property market is suffering from a huge oversupply of property which has and will continue to drive property prices in a downward direction producing more and more cheap property Spain.
In reality, any property that is likely to sell whether it be an apartment, a villa, a cortijo or a cave house is going to be classified as cheap property. Look at the property listings of any agent in Spain and you will quickly be able to differentiate between those properties priced to sell and those that are destined to stay on the agents’ books because they are still at 2007 prices and totally unrealistic in today’s Spanish property market. How To Search For Your Cheap Property Spain.
One thing to remember in your search is that every single property in Spain is listed with a price that is above its selling price, even the cheapest property that you can find in Spain has a negotiating margin built into its price. A second point to bear in mind is that although agents represent the property seller they will do whatever they can to help you get the property you want at the price you want, they are desperate for the commission on any sale.
A Very Different Kind of Cheap Property Spain. The Cave House.
As an example one of the most exciting and yet “undiscovered” types of cheap property that can be found in Spain are cave houses, which can be found in quite a few areas in Southern Spain. Cave houses have always been a fantastic bargain but today they are, probably, the cheapest property that you can find anywhere in Spain. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that cave houses are dark and dingy. Modern cave houses are bright, airy, ecological and fitted with all modern conveniences. They also sell at prices up to 30% cheaper than the equivalent conventional property and so really do represent not only quality but cheap property Spain.

A new law in the UK, to be enacted shortly, states that vehicle owners must keep their vehicle insured unless they have notified the DVLA that the vehicle is being kept completely off any road within the EU. There are severe penalties for offenders.
So, if you are driving a UK plated vehicle in Spain and are resident here you must legalise your vehicle in Spain.
You cannot get out of it by advising the DVLA with a SORN, or ‘Sworn Off Road Notification’ stating that your vehicle is not being used on the road because if you are driving a UK vehicle in Spain and have declared a SORN you potentially face stiff fines both in here in Spain and back in the UK.
Your UK registered vehicle must be insured in the UK with a UK-based company so it is entered on the UK insurance database used to trace vehicles that are not insured. If you are driving a UK registered vehicle in Spain and have used a Spanish company to insure it you must be absolutely certain that your vehicle is listed on the UK insurance database. There is no way around this so make sure your insurance company or broker gives you this in writing.
Many expats have been ignoring the law for years but now the authorities are looking everywhere for more cash so do not expect any mercy.
