Finding Independent Spanish Solicitors

Independent Spanish Solicitors

Finding independent legal advice in the coastal resorts is a relatively easy matter. There are many English speaking solicitors or "abogados" advertising in the numerous English language papers and magazines.

In inland regions of Spain the situation is very different. I am not aware of one English speaking abogado or gestor in this area. If you speak good Spanish then you do have a choice otherwise you are reliant on a translator if you want to use a local legal specialist.

Often, when one Spanish person buys from another Spaniard no solicitor is involved. If they are not familiar with property sales they would involve a friend who is and when they buy through an estate agent, the agent represents both the seller and the buyer. This type of situation is almost unheard of in the British property market. This does not mean that you should not seek independent legal advice, you most definitely should. Seeking this advice does mean that it will take longer for the buying process to unfold but you will be better protected and have more peace of mind.
If you are going to seek independent advice you need to have your advisor in place before you pay over any money as a deposit (usually non refundable).
